Where will I teach?
Through TeacherNex, you will have access to vacancies at our partner schools, both charter and district. All of our partner schools are high-need, which means they have a population of low-income students who are traditionally underserved and are in particular need of great teachers who can boost student achievement. Within this network of schools, you have complete control over job search decisions and which position you accept from among those offered to you by school leaders.
What is a charter school?
A charter school is an independently managed public school with a “charter”, or contract, which allows it to operate for set period of time, assuming certain operational and academic standards as outlined in the charter are met. In New Jersey, charter schools must be renewed every five years after the school’s fourth year. To learn more about charter schools in New Jersey, please visit the New Jersey Department of Education’s website and the Newark Charter School Fund.
How long is the commitment?
One of the goals of TeacherNex is to match the right teachers with high-need schools. To this end, TeacherNex seeks candidates who are committed to having a longer term impact on their students. With this approach, principals expect that TeacherNex candidates begin at least three years in their school. TeacherNex is not a standard teaching program, however, and there is no set period of time that TeacherNex candidates are required to stay with their school.
What subject area can I teach?
TeacherNex is now accepting applications only from candidates interested and eligible to teach math, science or special education. Please visit the Coursework Prerequisites page for more information subject-specific requirements
What type of certification do I need?
All teachers who are staffed through TeacherNex must be highly qualified, which means that you must be certified in the subject area you are teaching. It is your responsibility to make sure that you hold the right certification to teach in the state of New Jersey. Accepted applicants who are new to the teaching profession and/or are not yet certified will complete requirements in order to gain certification.
