Application Process
Candidates to TeacherNex benefit from a streamlined application and selection process and, if selected, will have access to our personalized service that caters directly to their needs.
Step 1: Read this website
Before you do anything else, please ensure that you have carefully read through the material on this website and familiarized yourself with the details of TeacherNex. The website covers everything from the subject you will teach to the benefits of joining TeacherNex. If you would like more information, we encourage you to attend an information session.
Step 2: Check your eligibility
Please be sure to thoroughly read the section on eligibility, as this is a critical piece of the application process. Only applications of eligible candidates will be reviewed. If you still have questions about your specific situation, please email us at info@newark.teachernex.org.
Step 3: Online application
A complete online application submitted via our online system, includes the following:
- Basic background and educational information
- School-type preferences
- Current certification area(s)
Step 4: Request transcripts and check your certification
Candidates will be required upon enrollment to submit two official transcripts for every undergraduate and graduate institution attended. It is to a candidate’s benefit to request the appropriate transcripts early while waiting for a decision from TeacherNex. Candidates are also encouraged to review the necessary steps for applying for New Jersey certification if s/he does not currently hold a certificate from New Jersey. Although TeacherNex will provide certification navigation services throughout the process, it is ultimately the candidate’s responsibility to be sure that s/he is fully eligible to teach in New Jersey by August 2010. To learn more about New Jersey certification, visit the New Jersey Department of Education.
Step 5: Register and study for the Praxis II subject exam(s)
If you do not currently have a New Jersey certificate, you must register for, study for and pass the Praxis II subject area exam(s) and verify sufficient knowledge of physiology, hygiene and substance abuse issues, including the effects of narcotics and alcohol through passage of an exam offered at county offices or through previous college level coursework in biology, health or nutrition or through basic military training. Passage of the appropriate exams is a requirement to successfully apply for certification in New Jersey. These tasks must be completed before accepted candidates can finalize enrollment in the TeacherNex hiring pool or begin interviewing with TeacherNex partner principals. It is imperative that all candidates study thoroughly for these exams. They often prove difficult even for individuals with deep content knowledge or relevant professional experience. Review the Testing Requirements section of this website for more information.
Step 6: Complete your profile (if invited)
Applicants who meet all eligibility requirements will be invited to fill out our profile. Individuals will be notified as to whether they have been invited to fill out the profile within approximately two weeks of submitting a complete application. The profile will require your most up-to-date resume, a student work assessment, classroom management blueprint, and short essay. Part of our assessment may also include a phone interview.
Candidates invited to fill out a profile will receive more information on this process at that time. Please note that not all candidates will be invited to fill out the profile.
Step 7: Wait for a decision
Candidates will be notified of our decision within approximately 3 weeks. Based on the strengths of the submitted profile materials and phone screen (if relevant), TeacherNex will decide whether or not a candidate will be offered admission to the hiring pool. At this time, selected candidates will be given an enrollment package with additional information on our services and a deadline by which to enroll in TeacherNex.
